About the artist
Hi there! My name is Lamppu, and I’m a self taught artist from Finland.
My art journey starts like many others’: I started to draw pretty much the moment I picked up a pen.
I always had liked to draw when I was a kid, but oh boy did the little artist in me get inspired when the Pokémon anime started airing here in Finland. Me and my friend spent our days drawing different Pokémons, we had a blast. I didn’t have any idea it would turn like it did.
When I was a teen, I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. Art was the only thing I knew how to do pretty okay, but I was so stubborn about not making art my career.
That is, until a few years ago…
I saw a friend selling their art as merchandise in a local comic festival and that intriquied me a lot. I had thought of selling my art in artist alleys in the past, but I was too insecure.
Fast forward to 2016, to the mentioned comic festival. Seeing my friend there, behind their table, sealed the deal for me. I was going to start applying to artist alleys.
It’s been a long time since 2016, and since then, I have attended many artist alleys. My art and merchandise was welcomed, and the positive feedback inspired me even further. I gradually moved from artist alleys to bigger things. First was artesan tables, and then, eventually, the dealer’s hall. Where the “big companies” sell their goods.
I’ve been in dealer’s halls for a couple of years now, but due to my declining health, I decided to step back a little. It got too overwhelming, and health is the most important thing to me after all.
My dream is to have a big solo exhibition and to publish an artbook. Who knows where my art journey will take me, but so far, I have enjoyed the ride!
